Poncho is getting there

I've made some progress on my poncho this past week. I finished the front and am now 1/4 way through with the back. I can't wait to get it done so I can piece it together and finish it.

I'm testing this post on my tablet, to see how easily I can post with it. I'll be traveling in the near future and may not take my laptop if this works out. The tablet seems to do just fine with photo uploads. I think it'll do just fine.

Back to work on my poncho!

Until next time!

Progress on poncho

I have been working on this poncho for a few weeks now, in between finishing up Christmas gifts and making myself a new purse and hook organizer. I've made some progress since I last photographed it. The front panel is almost done, about a foot more to go. I'm making it long enough that it touches my wrists when it hangs down, so that's why it has to be so wide.

I did some drop stitch variations in the middle of it. You'll see the stitches look like a sideways V. It was just an experiment. I have been using a half double crochet stitch throughout the poncho, so I just dropped down with the same stitch into the row below to make the V.  I think it turned out rather well, it shows up better with the turquoise yarn than the other colors. I haven't decided if I will repeat it on the backside of the poncho.

It's raining here and the weatherman says that we may see some snow this afternoon. Good day to stay in and crochet. Back to work on my poncho!

Until next time!

HOTH- Crochet Hook Organizer

I have been wanting to make an organizer for my crochet hooks ever since I got my new cushion grip hooks. I checked out a few patterns and then decided to just wing it and come up with my own.
It didn't take me very long to make, a couple of hours yesterday and a couple today.

Here it is all folded up and buttoned. I believe I'll need to change the button to a larger one with a shank, this was the best one that I had on hand.

Here it is opened up. Each crochet hook has it's own little pocket and there's also a pocket for my scissors and measuring tape. I also stuck my needles in there as well as a couple of bobby pins, which I use for stitch markers.

What do you think of it? I'm pleased with the way it turned out. Now all my tools are together and the organizer can be tossed into my tote bag along with some yarn whenever I need to go somewhere and want to take along my crocheting.

I'm still working on my poncho, more on that in the next post.

Until next time!

New Year and New Creations

I've been busy the past month, making Christmas gifts and getting ready for the holidays so I haven't been able to blog about what I've been making as most were gifts.

I had a wonderful Christmas here at home with my oldest daughter and then the day after Christmas I drove 4 hours to visit with my youngest daughter and her family. I stayed there until yesterday and returned home.

Here are some of the things that I made for gifts. This snowflake hat I made for my 6 year old granddaughter who LOVES "Frozen" and the color blue. She looks SO cute in it but I didn't think to snap a photo of her wearing it, duh!

I made this little amigurumi reindeer for my youngest daughter. She fell in love with him while we were chatting in messenger and I was showing her some cute things I wanted to make. She was very surprised that I made him for her.  He's not perfect but I'm pleased with how he turned out, and of course she loves him. He's about a foot tall.

I also made these little drawstring bags for 2 of my granddaughters and stuffed them with lipbalm and lotion. They were SO easy to make and quick too. I made one in all white for my grandson's girlfriend as well.

I made this goofy owl pillow for my oldest daughter and a small Christmas owl ornament which is packed away so I didn't get a photo of it.

I made 2 cotton potholders for my youngest daughter, just have a photo of this one. The other I made  is Christmas colors on one side and variegated red, white and brown on the other.

That's about it for the gifts. I've been wanting to make an all black purse since I made my first purse. I thought about it for awhile, how I would want it made, how the flap and closure would be. This is what I came up with.

I took the button off the first purse that I made since the button really looked good with the stark black of this one.  I whipped up a pocket for the inside for my cellphone too.
That's a little pocket tissue cover that is sitting above the purse. They don't take any time at all to make and looks way better than the plastic covering the tissues.

What's currently on my hook? I've been working on a poncho for myself.

The stripes will run the direction that you see it here in the photo. Anyone that knows me knows that I usually dress in black or dark colors. This poncho is going completely out of my comfort zone but I absolutely love the colors in it. I'm about a third of the way done with the front of it. I'll continue with the colors in the order that they are, perhaps shaking it up a bit with some stitch variations in the solid colors. It's going to be two rectangles stitched together at the shoulders but leaving an opening in the middle to slip it over my head. I'll make it long enough to come down to my wrists so I've got a ways to go with the width of it yet.

Oh, I almost forgot, here's a non-crochet item I bought for myself in November. I've never had a brand new car and I figured it was time. There's going to be some traveling in the future for me, now that I'm retired, so I needed something better than my almost dead old van. I traded it in for this little cutie.

It's a brand new 2015 Nissan Versa Note. I LOVE it!! So easy to drive and great on gas. I've been averaging 25 mpg city and 41 mpg highway, mostly on the mountains so flat highway is better mpg. I'm ready for a road trip!! Maybe I should head south to Florida to visit my brothers and get out of this cold weather.  Stay warm & safe and Happy New Year everyone! Back to my crocheting.

Until next time!
